Confirm the asset and product
Ethereum is a blockchain network; ETH is its native asset. A spot purchase, a derivatives position and a staking product are separate choices. Read the product type and the asset you will receive rather than relying on an Ethereum logo.
For example, if you want ETH you can withdraw to a wallet but the screen describes a perpetual contract, you are in the wrong flow. WETH and staking receipt tokens have other purposes; a name containing ETH does not make them the same product.
Before you buy
Check residence requirements, identity checks and payment methods available to your account before comparing quotes. An accessible website or listed trading pair does not establish that your account can pay.
Find the full debit, included charges and expected ETH receipt. If you buy USDT first, include that purchase in the comparison. A budget expressed in dollars is not the same thing as a USDT balance.
A fictional $100 purchase
Teaching assumptions: a $100 total budget, $2 of charges deducted within that budget and a final quote of $2,000 per ETH. The quote already includes any markup; assume no other fee or currency conversion. The amount buying ETH is $98, producing $98 ÷ $2,000 = 0.049 ETH.
These are invented numbers, not a live price or platform quote. A real order might collect its fee in ETH or add a separate charge. Follow the confirmation screen's deduction method and avoid counting the same fee twice. If the entered $100 excludes fees, the total debit can exceed your budget.
Trading fees, withdrawal fees and gas
A reference trading fee covers the trade, not every later action. Moving ETH from an exchange to a wallet requires a separate look at its withdrawal charge. Sending from that wallet or using an application may then require a network fee.
Ethereum mainnet fees are paid in ETH and vary with the action and network conditions. An exchange withdrawal charge is not necessarily the current gas cost. List the steps you actually intend to use before adding fees together.
If you withdraw
An address may appear on multiple networks. That does not mean its balances move automatically between them. The exchange, receiving wallet and intended application must support the network you select.
Example: you want to use ETH on Ethereum mainnet but choose another withdrawal network. A successful transfer does not make those funds available on mainnet. Switching the wallet's network view does not bridge assets. Establish the destination network first, then compare charges.
Tokens present, but insufficient funds?
Check whether the missing balance is the token being sent or the asset used for network fees. In a regular Ethereum mainnet transaction, holding USDT does not provide ETH for gas. Some products offer fee sponsorship or other payment arrangements; do not assume your transaction does.
Consider the next action before withdrawing. If you use an application, inspect the website, network and permission requested before signing. Receiving assets does not require giving the sender your recovery phrase.
Keep the purchase and transfer records separate
Record the filled ETH quantity and the fee amount and currency, then check your balance. A later withdrawal has its own network, address and transaction reference. An executed purchase and a completed withdrawal are different records.
Buying ETH does not require staking it or swapping into another product. Decide how to buy, how to hold and what to use it for separately.
Four checks before confirming
1. The product is spot ETH and the received asset matches your goal.
2. The total debit and expected quantity are clear, with no double-counted charge.
3. Any planned withdrawal uses a network supported at both ends, with minimums and fees checked.
4. You understand wallet recovery and keep the recovery information private.
The official references below explain the asset, networks and wallets. Your exchange account determines which payment methods and products you can use.
Is ETH an ERC-20 token, and which network should I choose?
Native ETH and ERC-20 are different concepts. ERC-20 is a token standard, not another blockchain or an extra asset you must buy to withdraw ETH. WETH is a wrapped form that follows ERC-20; its uses and required actions are not interchangeable with native ETH.
Check the asset and network separately. If your receiving use requires Ethereum mainnet, match that network on the sending side. An ERC-20 label or matching 0x address alone is insufficient. Regular mainnet transactions pay gas in ETH; check other networks separately.
Can ETH sent on the wrong network be recovered?
Save the network, receiving address and TxID first. An address you control on a compatible network is a different case from an exchange deposit on an unsupported network. Check the former using your wallet’s official instructions; ask the receiving exchange to investigate the latter.
Changing the displayed network neither reverses a confirmed transfer nor bridges it. Recovery depends on who controls the address and the receiving system. A general guide cannot promise a recovery. Never give a recovery phrase to someone offering to retrieve funds.
